Hey Trail! Fire is a popular element for wizards. It's a good choice if you don't mind the scarcity of scrolls/ high price. The flickerflame skill is nice to have. You can use it to get past barriers that you cannot jump over like cliff edges. It's also useful in running away from pkers. LOL You can teleport across the screen away from them. Allowing you the room to get away.
But, wizard class is a very popular class to start with so pretty much any element you pick will be expensive. Don't let that discourage you. Play it for a while see if you like it. Wizards are one of the easiest classes to level. Check out Summer's Fire Wizard thread. It can be used for any element. It tells you exactly where to go and at what level. Do a search for Fire Wizard, posted by summer.
As far as minor you still have time before you need to pick that. You can pick a minor at level 50. By that time you should have a good idea of what you want to pick.
But play around, try different classes and different elements. You'll find one that suits you best.
