The treasure map quest, which requires you to gather map fragments together and go to the Jeweler in Chak City to combine them, needs to be changed in my opinion. There are a few things I've noticed about it. As a note before reading the below comments, I'm assuming the reader has a basic understanding of this quest already. Please use the search feature to get details about this quest. Here's one
thread with some useful information.
First, there are 3 sets of fragments, 2 orange and 1 blue. I don't understand why there are two different orange sets. Makes it a little confusing to figure out which orange set piece you have. You can go to a shop and see which one costs more for the humanoid and MM (Mysterious Merchant) quest fragments, but it would make a lot more sense to have different colors for each set.
Second, the fragments you buy directly from MM and the fragments you get from the MM quest look identical. Again, you can go to a shop to distinguish them because the ones bought directly through MM cannot be sold; however, in my opinion, it would make a lot more sense to have a different background or some feature on the icon to differentiate between them.
Third, the quest itself costs way too much PP if you complete the whole thing and get 200 rep (Just as a reminder, turning in 1 of the 3 combined parts of the map only gives 20 rep, which really isn't worth it in the end). The part that accounts for most of the PP is the Mysterious Merchant quest that rewards you with map fragments. This quest, the Materials in Demand - Warehouse Manager needs your help, costs 6 PP (fairly certain on this value) to buy from MM. From reading the help file on the quest, there is a 3/9 chance of getting the cheaper orange piece, 2/9 chance of getting the blue piece, and 1/9 chance of getting the rare, other orange piece. This leaves 3/9 chance for getting fake map pieces. Just looking at the numbers (not taking into account luck - good or bad), you'd need to buy 9 scrolls from MM, which cost 54 PP, in order to get that last orange piece. This quest has a lot of potential, but the amount of PP needed for buying all of these MM quest scrolls doesn't make it worth doing for 200 rep.
I have a few suggestions for improving this last part of the quest.
1. Give a 3/9 chance for getting all 3 map pieces. Still is a little random, but you can probably trade with other players for the pieces you need since everyone has an equal chance of getting any 3. The rep reward can stay the same then.
2. Increase the rep reward for the quest. This quest, due to the amount of PP you invest in it, should be worth more. It's hard to determine a fair rep reward, but I would suggest at least 350 rep.
3. Have an alternate way of obtaining the last 3 pieces you would get from the MM quest. I'm up for any suggestions people have. Maybe something along the lines of Racers having a chance of dropping these map fragments? Just another way to get them would be nice.
If anyone has other ideas, please post them.
Thanks,
Yajard
