especialy because its free to play (and has low system requirements but still looks very nice and is fun to play), i think alot of people, including myself, would like to play pdo on their linux pc. is there going to be a linuxclient of the final release?
or has someone managed to make it run with wine or cedega at least yet?
when i try to play with wine the i only get the error message "Failed to initialitze. Ensure client file is authentic or contact the Costumer Service Center."
i really hope pdo will be playable for linuxusers too =)

Perhaps people there will be more into helping with wine settings.
I have no linux box with wine installed to my disposal atm so cant help you there.
But they got plenty of other more demanding games running so far so your chances are good...

It seems that a fair bit of the client-server communication when logging in is performed via internet explorer.  Perhaps this is the issue?

Yes that is quite possible, I've noticed the client shell opens an IE clone that might not be compatible.

As far as I can see the only available option for *nix users is a virtual machine atm, but that hogs resources.

Although if you have a cedega account they might help you out as well, and maybe include the game in a future release, but I'm guessing they will only consider it if the game will be at least in open beta stage.

Cedega = Wine with commercial support and license for propitiatory M$ libraries.
If the application does not use special D3D functions, which this game doesn't imho, its useless IMHO to get a cedega account.

The Wine developers and others a like might have a workaround for letting the application think it uses IE by cloning functions as they already do atm.

i have a virtual machine with windows 2k installed, but vmware only simulates a 2d graphiccard, what means pdo is running with very low fps and in my case (dunno if its with all 2d cards or only coz vm) character and mob models arent shown - what turns this into no possibility...

but im sure the internet explorer part isnt a problem. starting the "patcher" client and choosing server, entering userdate etc is no problem. the error first occures when you succesfully logged in and the desktop went black. the errormessage also is in the ingame design.

well i hope when the game gets public and much more people are playing it, there will be some who may have ideas how to run it
